About the Shrine

The National Blue Army Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Catholic Shrine dedicated to the message of Fatima. It is owned and operated by The Blue Army, USA, a worldwide movement of millions of faithful responding to the requests Our Blessed Mother made to three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal in 1917.

The Shrine is located on 150 acres and rises over the lovely Muscontecong Valley as an architectural embodiment of the faith and devotion of pilgrims to Our Lady and hosts more than 50,000 pilgrims annually. The Shrine provides all who come here a peaceful setting for prayer and meditation.

The National Blue Army Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was built in 1978 as an answer to Our Lord's plea to Lucia, "What is being done to spread devotion to the Immaculate Heart of My Mothers?"

The roof of the Shrine represents Mary's mantle flowing over and protecting her children. The bronze statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary holding out the Rosary and the Scapular rises 145 feet from the chapel level. The Heart of the Shrine is Our Eucharistic Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, on the lower level.

The special charisma of the Shrine is peace and a unique closeness to Jesus and Mary is experienced by pilgrims who come with faith, love and devotion to honor the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of His Mother.

HOLY HOUSE

The Holy House was dedicated in 1973, and is the heart of the Our Lady of Fatima Retreat Center.

The original Holy House, the home of the Holy Family is enshrined in Loreto, Italy.

Stones from the actual Holy House in Italy were pulverized and added to the mortar used to construct the Holy House Chapel. The Chapel is the same size as the original Holy House and is similarly constructed.

Sister Lucia's Last Vision is replicated in the Holy House Chapel. A wood statue of St. Joseph as he appeared at Fatima during the Miracle of the Sun is awaiting your visit. Pope John XXIII had a sign placed above the Holy House in Loreto which says, "This is the holiest place on earth!"

CAPELINHA, USA

The Capelinha, USA is one of only two exact replicas of the Chapel built at Fatima, on the site of Our Lady's apparitions. "Capelinha" is a Portuguese word which means "little chapel."

Our Lady, in her August, 1917 apparition at Fatima, requested that a chapel be built at that spot. Many who have visited Fatima experience the holiness of that privileged shrine in a special way at the Capelinha, USA.

The Pilgrim Virgin Statue in the Capelinha, USA is a replica of the miraculous Pilgrim Virgin Statue carried in procession at Fatima. It was generously donated by the Catholic Portuguese Community.

ROSARY GARDENS

A little paradise which makes the Rosary Mysteries come to life! The Mysteries are represented in a unique setting which adds a new dimension to your prayer and meditation.

The outdoor Stations of the Cross can be made individually or by groups. The St. Francis Shrine, with the animals and birds, is a favorite spot for children and all young at heart.

The Angel of Peace statue occupies a position near the entrance to the Holy House. The Angel of United States graces the reflecting pond on Marion Way.

Many pilgrims that visit the Shrine pray and light candles at the Fatima Apparition Shrine located in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

The background is a recreation of the site of the apparitions in Fatima, Portugal as it was in 1917.
